Tout avait pourtant commencé en douceur. Dans le premier acte, la Viola domine sans conclure, même si Mauro Zárate manque même de peu d’ouvrir le score dès la troisième minute de jeu. Puis Radovanović, le milieu du Chievo, récolte un second jaune juste avant la pause. Le match s’anime, Bernardeschi tape la barre, et les joueurs se décident à hausser le ton physiquement. Peut-être un peu trop. Les cartons pleuvent, et Mauro Zárate se retrouve même exclu pour un tacle par-derrière en milieu de seconde période. Moche, mais la formation viola s’en sort quand même. Grâce à Bernardeschi, qui obtient et transforme lui-même un penalty après une faute de Massimo Gobbi.
À l’arraché, les hommes de Paulo Sousa s’offrent un quart de Coupe d’Italie. Et peuvent dire grazie à Federico Bernardeschi, une fois de plus omniprésent ce soir.
