Ian Baraclough, nouveau sélectionneur de l’Irlande du Nord

Ce samedi, la fédération d’Irlande du Nord a annoncé l’arrivée de Ian Baraclough en tant que nouveau sélectionneur. Ce dernier remplace Michael O’Neill, parti fin avril pour se concentrer pleinement sur son rôle d’entraîneur de Stoke City. Âgé de 49 ans, l’Anglais était déjà sélectionneur des Espoirs.

Premier test le 4 septembre en Roumanie, avant de lancer la Ligue des nations le 7 septembre contre la Norvège. Mais le principal objectif du technicien sera, avant tout, de qualifier la sélection à un deuxième Euro consécutif. En demi-finale de barrages, l’Irlande du Nord doit affronter la Bosnie-Herzégovine. En cas de victoire, la finale pourrait se jouer contre la République d’Irlande.

Sacré challenge, en quelques mois à peine.
