Tout a basculé en 25 minutes à partir de la réduction du score d’Odsonne Edouard (58e), Jean-Philippe Mateta prenant le relais de son coéquipier en inscrivant un triplé (61e, 62e, 83e) pour que les Eagles s’imposent 2-4. Son dernier triplé remontait à novembre 2020, quand il évoluait à Mayence. Une belle manière de dire adieu, peut-être, puisque l’attaquant de 26 ans est en instance de départ.

Dans les autres résultats du soir, Bournemouth, Leicester, Wolverhampton, Luton Town ou encore Brentford ont validé leur ticket pour le tour suivant. Fulham a éliminé Tottenham aux tirs au but (1-1, 5-3 T.A.B.) et Leeds a pris la porte contre Salford City (1-1, 9-8 T.A.B.).
