Quand il est arrivé à Nantes, Denis Oliech portait sur ses épaules une montagne d’espoir de buts, de courses et de dribbles. On a bien eu des courses puissantes et véloces mais il a dû oublier en route les buts mais aussi la règle du hors jeu. Si monsieur "5 hors-jeu par demi-heure" était précédé d’une telle réputation, c’est essentiellement à cause du Guardian le journal britannique qui en avait fait l’un des cinq joueurs africains les plus prometteurs et l’une des dix merveilles mondiales dont il fallait suivre l’éclosion voire l’explosion. Point d’explosion à Nantes. Et passer d’un club en crise à un club en future crise comme Auxerre, ça ne risque pas de faire des étincelles. Et tant pis pour les dons de voyance du Guardian. Dennis Oliech - Kenya

Oliech already has 12 international goals to his name and scored the last-minute winner against Cape Verde Islands that secured Kenya’s place in the finals. He has been routinely linked with a high-profile move to a European club and this tournament should be the springboard for a booming career.
Sambegou Bangoura - Guinea
Introducing a Lean Mean Goal-scoring Machine. Bangoura, a prolific striker, made his mark in the qualifying stages and is an emerging talent at Standard Liege in Belgium. Many believe Guinea are in with a chance of causing an upset and winning the tournament that they were disqualified from in 2002. But any success rests on the striking partnership of Bangoura and Genclerbirligi’s Souleymane Youla - when it works, it is fearsome.
Hatem Trabelsi - Tunisia
One of the tournament’s hottest prospects, Hatem Trabelsi has won many admirers for his attacking style. Currently at Ajax, the fullback has been linked with Europe’s top clubs including AC Milan, Manchester United and, inevitably, Chelsea. With the advantage of playing on home soil, Trabelsi will fancy his chances of leading Tunisia all the way. However his country’s Achilles heel, a lack of ability up front, could prevent him heading to the Premiership with a winner’s medal.
Jean Lomani - Rwanda
Rwanda’s first outing in the Nations Cup should provide a welcoming stage for this promising young striker. Sporting distinctive dreadlocks, Lomani is currently the top scorer in the Zambian league for his club Power Dynamos. He’s young - just 21 - and doesn’t look much (he’s only 5ft 7in tall and weighs under 11 stone) but his goals have just taken Rwanda into the group stage of the World Cup 2006 qualifiers.
